Name: Christina
Job Title: Senior Designer
The best part of my job is…
“Being able to be creative (most days) and get paid for it. It’s really nice to be surrounded by like-minded people in the studio who understand the pains and gains of being a designer. I also love that people who don’t know Design think that this job is way cooler than it is, haha!”
How did you start your career in design?
“I started off studying Economics at University and realised very quickly that I would be quite miserable if I ended up in a finance-related job, so I switched over to a Visual Communications / Illustration degree. This led to me researching careers that excited me, and Graphic Design was the one that I happened upon.”
What does a typical day look like for you?
“Wake up, travel to work, grumble on way to work, get a matcha latte, grumble at work, go home and binge on Netflix whilst drawing on my iPad.”
What are the best tools you use?
“I love using Procreate to do digital illustrations! It’s such a flexible tool, and as I use it on my Ipad, I can do drawings on the go.”
What work are you most proud of?
“I love doing animation, so anything I’ve done that allows me to use that skill and showcases this is usually high on that list. I have also been doing a lot of digital work lately, as I am learning Figma, and I am pretty proud of how far I’ve come in this area and can create fully prototyped website mock-ups now.”
What excites you about the world of design?
“I like that there are so many ways to answer a brief and how design solutions can be limitless.”
What do you do to spark inspiration or creativity?
“I love browsing other artists’ work from different industries and other areas of design. You’ll find a lot of inspiration that can be translated across mediums, and it really helps when I’m having a creative block kind of day. I collect many art books that reflect this, and flicking through these really sparks creativity.”
What is the best design book you’ve read?
“‘Information is beautiful’ by David McCandless is not necessarily the best, but it’s the most influential design book for me, as I was gifted this early in my career, and it helped to shape my thinking about information and how the ordinary can be made beautiful.”
What’s your favourite thing to do outside of work?
“Play badminton, illustrate, and eat yummy things!”
What’s your favourite joke?
“Trump’s presidency.”
If you were famous, what would it be for?
“Ideally, for creating the most amazing illustrations!”
What is your most used emoji?
🤓
Who would play you in a movie about your life?
“Rebel Wilson – Just because she is super funny.”
